DIGITAL PEDAGOGY (D-Ped)

D-Ped Seminar

The Writing and Communication Program`s seminar in digital pedagogy (D-Ped) focuses on digital media as a way to rethink theory, research, practice, and pedagogy.

Brittain Fellows investigate challenges posed by digital infrastructures and consider cultural changes in classrooms, communities, and workplaces. During the seminar, they explore representational power, expressive uses of digital forms, and ways in which these forms call on humanists to reconfigure critical practice.

D-Ped Certificate

Brittain Fellows earn a D-Ped Certificate by completing the D-Ped Seminar, a D-Ped research project, a poster presentation, and a manuscript for publication. Whether Brittain Fellows modify an existing D-Ped strategy or create an entirely new approach, they need to situate their D-Ped project in relation to existing scholarship and research and also fulfill objectives and outcomes for the courses they are teaching (1101, 1102, or 3401).

The D-Ped projects use a range of technology/media, including class management software, asynchronous and synchronous communication, multimedia resources, and website design. Special consideration is given to the influence of digital media and digital pedagogy on written, oral, visual, and nonverbal communication. Brittain Fellows workshop their D-Ped projects for certification during some sessions of the D-Ped seminar.
