ITALIAN FILM STUDIES

Italian Film Studies

Do you like to watch and discuss well-made movies?

Would you like to learn more about film history and production as you experience northeastern Italy and surrounding regions?

Would you like to include a study abroad experience in your Georgia Tech education?

If so, please consider joining the School of Literature, Communication and Culture (LCC) this summer as we explore Italian Film Studies (IFS) in Gorizia, Italy.

Students will live and study in Gorizia, Italy, home to our partner institution, the Film Studies Department of the University of Udine. A two-hour train ride to Venice, Gorizia is also a short journey to the European capitols of Vienna and Rome. The immediate vicinity of Gorizia features castles, museums, and historic sites.

In this six-week program, you will sharpen your knowledge of film history and theory, and you will learn the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking as you make your own Italian movie. Open to all majors, this program will help you satisfy your humanities requirement or just round out your degree with a truly educational study abroad experience that is also a lot of fun.

Students accepted in this program will enroll in two courses and receive six credits, which may be applied to the Film and Media Studies Minor or Film Studies Certificate. Students will also have the option of enrolling in the Oxford summer program, which follows the completion of courses in Italy.

Students may choose to extend their summer film experience by considering a New York City-based internship at one of the following employers:

  • Human Rights Watch (Information Technology Department)
  • Milestone Film Distributors
  • Zeitgeist Films

IFS is compatible with Georgia Tech's Oxford Study Abroad program. Ask us how!
